As already indicated on the header image, the Psilo mushrooms uses five very specific enzymes (indicated by the colored dots labelled TrpB, <a href=\"https:\/\/chemistry-europe.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/cbic.202200551\">PsiD<\/a>, PsiH, PsiK, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-024-46997-z\">PsiM<\/a>) to step-wise synthesize psilocybin starting from a simple amino acid, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Serine\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Serine\">serine<\/a>, and the heterocyclic aromatic compound indole to make the amino acid <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tryptophan\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tryptophan\">tryptophan<\/a>, from which in a series of 4 four more steps, psilocybin is synthesized.
